Tour Adventures - Week 4
Take your time.
It was the last week and I was feeling more determined than ever to do some good performances. I quickly settled back into routine on the way to Manchester and enjoyed some pizza before playing. It was such a compliment for the audience to come forward throughout my set. It doesn't happen often. I was offered a drink too but remembered that I would be driving home at 2:30 in the morning. Not fun. But the night went well and the band were great, as per usual. Half of us went home whilst the other half stayed over for the night.
The journey to Oxford was quite enjoyable. We stopped in Woodstock to have some posh tea. The place we went to had been decorated with cute plants and light green walls. A fire was crackling gently next to us and it was so relaxing. It took us a while to get up and go. I really can't understand why all music venues have to be so unbelievably cold. I only remember sitting with my coat on desperately trying to warm up my frozen fingers. My set was a mess and I was a little disappointed with myself. I had attempted to play a new song but regretted it instantly. Learn your lyrics, no matter what. Sophie did so well. It was a small crowd but we held onto her every word.
I think London might have been the best one for me. The stage was absolutely tiny so the band were a little worried and the changing rooms were laughable. In all fairness, I think we were all dreading the night ahead but then I had a lovely photo from my parents of them standing outside of London Euston. They had travelled all the way down to support and I was elated. Very nervous but so pleased. I helped myself to a pot noodle, warmed up and did one of the best performances that I'd done throughout tour. I tried out some new material and successfully did my Christmas cover (2000 Miles - The Pretenders). I was gutted there was only one more night to go.
Set up, soundcheck, grab some food, warm up, perform, chill out, sleep. This was the routine I had done for the last month and I wasn't bored of it. That must mean something. It was another successful set and I was ecstatic. Sophie dedicated 'Thank You' to me which meant so much. I am so privileged to have met some wonderful people and I can't thank the band enough for having me on this tour. We're all going for curry on Friday to round up our journey. This has been such a valuable experience and I've learned so much. Here's to a messy and unpredictable future. I hope this never ends.
